"There's a lot of educational software out there--and some of it won't get a second look once it's out of the box. Fortunately, we've done your homework for you. Here are The Post's pics for students of all ages:

For the smallest of small fry--those who can't help but bang on the keyboard--there's BabyType.

Press any key, and BabyType responds with an image and sound. In one mode, each letter typed is displayed onscreen, accompanied by the sound the letter makes. In another (more whimsical) mode, random shapes appear and farm animals bray, moo or quack."

"Best Software 2001"

Chicago Parent
December 2001

BabyType was one of a select few chosen by Chicago Parent magazine for its yearly roundup of best children's software.

"Our current favorite baby busy-box software is BabyType, which works with your standard keyboard. After the software is installed, children can press any key to see an image and hear a sound. Best of all, kids can't get into any other programs or data while they are playing."

"This very clever software lets a baby or toddler bang on your keyboard to her heart's content without inadvertantly deleting files, rebooting or otherwise destroying your computer."

"Of all the baby gimmicks out there, we like this one the best. It makes no wild claims, it just does what it says it will do, which is turn your computer into an activity center."
